The Certificate III in Hospitality provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, food and beverage and gaming.

What can Graduates Expect From This Qualification?

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

Students must be 16 years or older. Prospective students wishing to undertake this course with HETC will be required to complete an entry test and demonstrate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills equivalent to ACSF Entry Level 3.

Learning and assessment pathways have a mix of formal structured training and structured workplace experience with formative assessment activities through which the team member can acquire and demonstrate skills and knowledge from the relevant units of competency they are undertaking. Your practical skills will be performed and assessed in simulated and work placement environment.


Trainers and Assessors have flexibility (according to the requirements of the Training Package and units of competency) in selecting which techniques or tools they will use to gather sufficient evidence, in a range of contexts, to make a decision (including RPL).


Students will be required to supply their own tablet PC / Laptop for training & assessment.

This course is taught on campus, at HETC's International Hospitality Management School.


The Certificate III in Hospitality is delivered over 46 weeks. Students are experienced in the industry, either existing or new workers. Existing workers may be able to meet the competency requirements in a shorter timeframe using Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Course Duration

Students who have previously undertaken study with an RTO and been deemed competent in any units which are contained in this qualification can apply for Credit Transfer (CT). HETC will assess their AQF documentation and determine which units are identical or equivalent. The student’s course requirements will then be reduced accordingly.


If, during HETC’s initial pre-enrolment assessment of suitability for the qualification, it is determined that the prospective student may hold experience and knowledge which would make them eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), HETC will invite the student to make an application for RPL.
